My Experience with John
Deere Tractors -- By Jim Sayre
I have been a member of the club since the beginning (my member
number is #22).
The following are my experiences with
J.D. tractors. I grew up on a 225 acre farm in Van Buren Township,
Michigan. I started driving 2 cylinder tractors part time, by
myself, when I was 8 years old, and was a full time driver at age 10 years.
The tractors we had were a 1930 "D"
and a 1934 "G.P." In 1948, we bought a "B" with a 44 H plow, an
ABG 200 cultivator and a hydraulic manure loader. Mechanization sure was
wonderful, and a lot of hard labor was eliminated
When I took over the farm from my dad,
more acreage was added so more power was needed. Following is a
list of tractors bought and used as the farm grew: 1954 "60," 1955 "70,"
1967 "2020 and 3020," 1968 "1020," 1970 "4020," 1975 "4520," 1980
"4620."
During that time in the mix was an INT
"M," an AC "WD 45" (OLD ALICE), and a Ferguson "30."
My collection at this time includes a
1934 "G.P. Beaner," 1948 "B, " 1948 "D, " Farmall Club Lowboy
(with umbrella), AC "B" and an "economy" tractor.
The picture
above is my 1934 John Deere G. P. "Bean" tractor.
This tractor is one of the few around that has all the beaner options
that were installed at the factory.
Over the years, I have enjoyed working
with J.D. two cylinder tractors. They are the best!
