From the Driver's Seat--
May, 2008
Hello everyone,
Well it's May already; this year seems to be flying
right by. Our April meeting was interesting. Larry Roome, who is a
district rep. for John Deere, showed us a movie on John Deere Days.
Thanks again Larry. It is amazing how much farming can change in fifty
years. In the early 1900's, most people farmed with horses and there
were very few tractors. Then, in the 1950's, you had tractors with power
steering, hydraulics, 3 pt, and.a comfort ride seat. Now today you have
air, stereo, GPS and the tractor can drive itself. Where will it be in
2050?
The plow day at Mayberry Farm went well also. Fox 2
news was there and I introduced our club tractors as they drove past.
Hudson Mills Club was there as well. We had at least a dozen tractors
there to plow 45 acres. Mayberry Farms said that we can plan on a plow
day every spring on the first weekend in May.
Our May meeting will be at St. Michael Lutheran
Church in Wayne, 3003 Hannan Rd. (where we have our Christmas party). It
will be a movie night with popcorn and drinks. The movie is Kellers'
Colossal Collection. For those of you who don't know about Keller, he is
a collector from Wisconsin who collects the first serial number tractors
and other rare tractors. He has collected over 525 tractors, most of
which are restored. Bruce Park has donated this movie to our movie
library. Thanks Bruce. If you didn't know, our club has a video library
that you can borrow movies from for free. There is a large variety to
choose from, so check it out.
Hope to see you soon.
